Are you infected? swine flu (H1N1 ), Trojan, worms, backdoors all awful words to describe the the various infections…
but really.. my pastor Tom talked his latest infection on his blog

He talked about “… You know Virus’s.  We recognize them by their symptoms.  Take the common cold.  We treat symptoms rather than attacking the source, which often masks itself as remain ever illusive!..”

but what is a virus?
“a software program capable of reproducing itself and usually capable of causing great harm ”

Ok i get it.. reproduction of something.. like my sin.. falling over and over again..

“…causing great harm…” YEA…. sin does that.. whether we like it or not… sin does cause great harm..

let’s take it a bit further..

Computer viruses do not arise spontaneously; they are made, intentionally by people and then turned loose on computer users via the internet/shared networks and THUMB drive (cough cough)..

so can SIN be created intentionally?
Matt 18:7Matt 18:7
English: World English Bible - WEB

WP-Bible plugin
(International Standard Version)
How terrible it will be for the world due to its temptations to sin! Temptations to sin are bound to happen, but how terrible it will be for that person who causes someone to sin!

can it be imposed/turned loose on others?

English: World English Bible - WEB

28 but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.

can sin spread?

12 Therefore, as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin; and so death passed to all men, because all sinned.

WP-Bible plugin

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned

ok so this isn’t looking good for us!!!! Now how about them WMVD’s..
if I was as good at combating SIN as I am at computer infections this section of my thoughts would be a breeze but let me try to apply the same troubleshooting

Step 1: detection.. do I really have sin in my life..? where is it?
Well we can do like Job did and just ask…or keep digging…
Job 13:23Job 13:23
English: World English Bible - WEB

23 How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my disobedience and my sin.

WP-Bible plugin
(NIV) How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin.
1 john 1:81 john 1:8

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

WP-Bible plugin
If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth
.

Step 2: acknowledgement.. then what types of sins? We know the 7 “deadly ones” but what about the rest.. sins of the flesh, spirit, against neighbors..
Psalm 79:4Psalm 79:4
English: World English Bible - WEB

4 We have become a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and derision to those who are around us.

WP-Bible plugin
We are objects of reproach to our neighbors, of scorn and derision to those around us.
1 John 1:101 John 1:10
English: World English Bible - WEB

10 If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

WP-Bible plugin
If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our hearts

Step 3: confession.. well yeah! i know I got them so let’s get the out in the open
James 5:16James 5:16
English: World English Bible - WEB

16 Confess your offenses to one another, and pray one for another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.

WP-Bible plugin
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
Daniel-9: 4-5 4 I prayed to the LORD my God and confessed: “O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and keep your commands. 5 But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations.

Step 4: eradication.. (virus removal)
1 John 3:91 John 3:9
English: World English Bible - WEB

9 Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.

WP-Bible plugin
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
John 5:14John 5:14

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

WP-Bible plugin
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Step 5: protection..like a good antivirus program
1 Corinthians 10:131 Corinthians 10:13
English: World English Bible - WEB

13 No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

WP-Bible plugin
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it…
John 1:29John 1:29

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

So there are many ways we can find the virus (sin) in our life.. and God shows us there are ways to protect us from them… in all Jesus is the ultimate ANTI-Virus.. for our sins….

We are off to church in Haiti this morning, it should be interesting since this is an all english speeking church. I am looking forward to God speaking to me though this service. It alwas amazes me that all over the world brothers and sisers are worshiping the same God and in many cases the same time, just in different locations. It really me to graps the omnipresance aspect of our God….

As I travel I’ve wanted the ability to post blog updates without having to lug out my laptop, connect to the internet etc.. I knew that I could use the email to blog function built into wordpress. Then all I’d need to do is send an email from my blackberry.

However I’m heading out on a mission trip this week with 27 people from our church and I wanted to allow certain people to post entries without all the baloney of the laptops, internet, etc.. The built-in wordpress plugin limited me to just one user, and I wanted to have multiple users post to the blog since there are a bunch of us going on this trip. I also wanted to insure that not just anyone could post incase somehow the posting email address got spammed.

I came across the Postie Plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/postie/

There are many features this plugin offers.. like the ability to add images to posts as well as video.

But the best feature was the limiting of posting by email addresses.. this would cover the spammers as well as only allowing certain people to post..

The 1st test was successful… and now I’m testing the ability to add images, links and filtering out email footers

fight with me

will you stand and fight with us?

today the enemy of God is at work in my life. he is coming at me in all directions. The anguish, pain and angst I feel swelling inside me is causing me to doubt, fear and question everything I do. I understand that these fears are from him and his ability to twist the truth in my feeble mind. Though as I struggle through these times I know that my God is stronger than he.. for the power of the Holy Spirit dwells within me, as God promised sinners like me. His full armor will protect me when I stand a fight against the devils schemes! It is not my flesh that hurts but my soul he tries to overtake.. BUT! God’s belt of truth will help me to stand firm and rise up against the enemy. The shield of faith, though heavy to bear will protect me from the from the evil one and I will stand strong and pray in the face of my rulers with the sword of the Spirit as the word of God pours out in prayer. As I too am an ambassador in chains, pray that I may continue to run to prayer first so that I can declare the word of god fearlessly.

from Ephesians 6:10-20

Is it OK to tweet during church?
TIME thinks so

Although they may have missed the boat since Anthony Coppedge has been bolgging about it for a while now at http://twitterforchurches.com

Should we be twittering in church? Is this the new way to connect to the congregation? What are your thoughts?

I’m sure you’ve read 100’s of blog posts about dogs and how they are always by your side, loving, faithful, etc. I know I have. But what struck me the other day was just how much faith my dogs have in me.

mocha

You see each morning when I get up my dogs are right beside me, following me around the house, never leaving my side, under foot. Sometimes it a bit annoying, but for the most part it’s cute… well as cute as a 120 lab taking up the whole doorway when you’re trying to get out…Seriously though, as pet owns our dogs rely on us for everything; food, shelter, protection, everything and in return they love us unconditionally. They don’t ask for much except more food, potty breaks and love/companionship.

When I compare my dog’s commitment to following me verses how I follow God there is NO comparison… I fall WAY short..

ginger

No matter how many times my dogs make me angry and I have to discipline/yell at them, within seconds they are back following, wagging their tail wanting to play..willing to submit, follow, love and serve…

It’s so difficult to submit, follow, love and serve as God wants us to do. But yet every time we fall up; God is always there loving, caring and providing for us…

Why is it so hard to just submit, pick up our cross and follow God; wag our tail and love God as he loves us.… Sometime I just wish I could have the faith like my dogs..

Today is the day the lord has made..

He is gone…the tomb is empty our lord has risen today the promise has been fulfilled

He IS Risen an seated at the right hand of god

Here we go!
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

I’m casting my cares aside
I’m leaving my past behind
I’m setting my heart and mind on You
Jesus

I’m reaching my hand to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good
Is good

Chorus:
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
And I won’t worry about tomorrow
I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Today is the day
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh

I putting my fears aside
I’m leaving my doubts behind
I’m giving my hopes and dreams to You
Jesus

I’m reaching my hand to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good
Is good

Chorus:

(Guitar interlude)

(2x’s)
I will stand upon Your truth.
(I will stand upon Your truth)
And all my days I’ll live for You
(And all my days I’ll live for You)

I’ve posted my intro/bio page on ChurchTechMatters.com

Today was our last day to minister in NYC. The students are tired and weary but God is giving them the strength to endure the long days.  We divided up our groups again this AM and went our separate ways. My group when to St. John’s Bread and Life, soup kitchen and food pantry where we served over 500 meals to the homeless. Though the day was long the students were able to allow god to sustain them throughout the day.

Tonight was the best blessing for the students as we ministered to the children living in a shelter. There were over 20 children ranging in ages from 8 months to 13 year with the majority of them between 5-8. The PCA students lead the children in song, praise, and prayer and many games.  I cannot find the right words to describe what God has done this day so I’ll let the photos speak for me..

1 Corinthians 4

8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have become kings—and that without us! How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might be kings with you! 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. 10We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! 11  To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12 We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.

unWOW what a day!. Though many of us slept in and missed breakfast, in the end it was a very long day. We spent the first half of our day at the United Nations building where we were all given information about 11 different counties. The info packets for each country contained demographic stats, and other vital information about the country’s ‘make -up’. Our charge for the day was to spend a time in prayer for the country that we were given, openly and publicly as were felt the holy spirit leading us. I was given Iraq to pray for. In the back portion of the UN building was a mediation room that was dedicated for prayer, within the room was an empty stone alter. The plaque outside the room described the alter as an empty alter so that all who use the room can pray to their god. When I read that I felt the holy spirit lead me to pray for His Alter, to the ONE TRUE GOD, king of kings and the only true uiniter of nations under God’s Kingdom. As paced the halls I prayed every step of the way for the Lord our God to fill the leaders with the Holy Spirit and unite them all under Gods authority. When we were done with the prayer time, we had a guided tour of the UN building and got to sit in the General Assembly Hall. It was an unique experience.

After dinner we packed the van full of blankets, food and clothing to take on the homeless ministry out in the streets of Manhattan. Our leader Thomas took us into Times Square and to minister to some homeless near the shelter there. After we went to 5th ave and the students really got a chance to minister to 20+ homeless people sleeping on the stairs of the church. While speaking to Lois, one of the homeless women, she told us of a few more men down 57th ave that were in need. So 4 students and myself gathered some food, blankets, and clothing and walked a few blocks to meet, Jason and Bill. Jason accepted some food, gloves and I covered him in a blanket as he slept on the sidewalk. We spent some time with Bill talking to him, giving him gloves, food and water. Then I asked Bill if we could pray for him and the 5 of us took turns praying for Bill, Jason, Nancy, Lois and the others whom we met tonight. The lord was working in the lives of the students as the ministered to the men and women of NYC.
