So I was thinking about the logistics of this trip and what it will take to send 100+ people 2000+ miles away from home. Here are some of the stats that were given to me from our last meeting:
- There are 100 + people attending
- 70+ Students have sacrificed their spring break to lend a helping hand
- 30+ DEC members have sacrificed a weeks vacation that would normal be spent with family
- Over 2000 meals will be cooked and served (can you imagine the dishes that need cleaning)
- Over 5000+ bottles of water because we can’t drink the water there
- 700+ showers with only 6 working showers and 80 gal of hot water who’s not showering
- There are 10 home work sites projects
- We need 18 rental vehicles, the nearest Home Depot is 65+ miles away
- We will have to rent tools and purchase materials on-site because they can’t carry them on the plane
Some homes are near completion and require a small amount of money and the family could move it. We hope that we could raise some funds beyond our travel costs to help make these purchases and complete some homes.
